in a slow return
a poem for slow returns / simplicity / journeys back to self
in a slow return, simplicity
you’ll learn.
from time to dwell
in the depths
of your own nature.
a path appears,
life beckons —
to lay her moss
upon the shudder
of what has been.
she sent you to bathe
in the rhythmic waters
of deep time. she sent
a place for heart, space
for mind.
a poem i wrote last year. the imagery of “life” as a personified force, beckoning closer a wounded being, that has seemingly strayed far from themselves and their life, to lay her nutrient rich moss upon, wrap them up in space and time, is an image that i enjoy and find soothing.
it’s a reminder to me that returning to simplicity when things feel complex, is often the way. tending to the roots, to the waters, to the foundations, from here, and with the stabilisation of mind and heart, we can begin to walk the path back to “closeness”, to self / soul / world.
“The world cannot ruffle the dignity of a soul that dwells in its own tranquility” —
John O’ Donohue
